Further Information

TGS PTA Chairperson Lynn Gadsby will step down after 5 years service at the end of this academic year. We are looking for a new volunteer to take over our amazing PTA now so that we can ensure an efficient hand over.

The main role of the Chair is to lead the committee, ensuring the PTA is run in line with its constitution and according to the wishes of all members.

Main responsibilities are:

  • Setting the dates and agenda for meetings
  • Managing meetings according to the agenda
  • Ensuring meetings are held fairly and contributions from everyone are welcomed
  • Delegating tasks to committee members and volunteers and ensuring these are carried out effectively
  • Ensuring the smooth running of fundraising events
  • Overseeing the day to day running of the Uniform Shop
  • Being one of the designated signatories on the PTA bank account
  • Getting to know PTA members and welcoming and encouraging new volunteers
  • Drawing up the annual PTA calendar of events in conjunction with the school
  • Being the PTA's primary link to the school, which includes agreeing on a wish list with the school leadership team
  • Ensuring the PTA is registered with regulatory bodies, e.g. the Charity Commission, and submitting reports where necessary

Although this sounds like a formal position, the role of Chair is supported by all of the committee members, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and of course parent volunteers that help out at events. We work as a great team together that volunteers to add value to the school and each member gives as much or little time as they can. A complete handover will be given

We have raised over £150,000 and projects funded include an new outdoor seating, sound proof music pods, equipment to enable WiFi, modular staging, gymnastics crash mats, high jump equipment, digital cameras with tripods and portable digital lights, IT programming equipment, a new mini bus, bag racks, a lazer printer, refurbishment of the Science Labs, school mascots, funding of the new therapy dogs and many more items that benefit every single pupil in the school.

Alongside the all important fundraisers and social events, we also help celebrate key events in the pupils' school calendar, such as the Year 7 Disco, end of Year 11 exams or Year 13 Prom, which are great fun to be part of.

Should you be interested in the role or if you would like further information before you decide please contact us at pta@tgs.kent.sch.uk

"Being chair of the PTA is a very challenging but rewarding role. It's crucial to be enthusiastic - as with any job, you need to enjoy what you're doing. Organisation and delegation are key, especially when it comes to running events. I think it's important for people to know who you are - I have been lucky enough to work with some amazing volunteers over the years and the teaching and admin staff at TGS have been extremely supportive and welcoming.

If you are thinking about being chair, my advice is to go for it! It's so rewarding to know that you've helped to raise much-needed money for your school."

Lynn Gadsby - TGS PTA Chairperson
